I usually answer with something general similar "I went vegetarian for all the major reasons that people cull to get vegetarian: My wellness, the environs, and animal rights." If they ask me more than, I'll elaborate. I never reply with annihilation that sounds judgment or confrontational, since no one likes beingness spoken to that way, and it'south never going to win anyone over.

I usually simply tell people it was for health reasons. Those who I know better I will get into more particular for.
I usually quote George Bernard Shaw: 'Animals are my friends... And I don't swallow my friends.' Or I say I am vegan for a diversity of reasons: ethical, environmental, wellness etc.
Jess wrote: "I unremarkably reply with something general like "I went vegetarian for all the major reasons that people choose to go vegetarian: My wellness, the environment, and animate being rights." If they enquire me more, ..." Hear hear! I think only a soft approach does whatsoever good.
Has whatever of yous been met with severe criticism after being asked about your eating habits?
Once in a while somebody comes back with an unprovoked criticism or insulting remark. I commonly ask them to be respectful and not-judgmental since I never give people a hard time most what they consume, and I look the same courtesy. It'south pretty rare that that happens, though. Overall I try not to surround myself with people who would act that way in the get-go identify. :)
That's refreshing to hear, Jess! I come from a culture where food=honey, and when I don't eat their food because it's not vegan, people become upset. I try to explain myself, but they try to offer compromises. Similar eating something egg-glazed, or with chicken stock, equally if I would of a sudden alter my ethics there and then.
Gertie wrote: "Non the long explanation y'all might give while writing, but the short exact response you requite when someone asks why y'all don't consume meat." Information technology depends on how it is asked. If it'southward confrontational I've learned to give shorter and sweeter answers like :"I no longer feel comfortable eating something that has a face." If the question is asked by someone who TRULY wants to know, so I might elaborate my reasons...which are wellness, environment and of course animal rights.
Lunar Lunacy wrote: "Has whatsoever of you been met with severe criticism after being asked about your eating habits?" Yes! I take some friends of friends that are truly ignorant on the subject of Vegetarian/Vegan diets/lifestyles. The worst information technology has Always gotten was when I got into a heated debate with a male friend of my husbands. I ended up challenging the man to testify me his all his medical records for heart/diabetes/cholesterol, etc..and I would bear witness him mine. I bet him that my records were meliorate then his - fifty-fifty tho I'chiliad non 'skinny'. I besides told him to never over again insult me to my face. I consider Vegetarianism similar my religion and I would NEVER intentionally go after someone because I didn't approve of their religion.
1. I don't agree with mass murderii. I dear animals and see them as my equals (and I don't believe they be for humanities selfish desires)
iii. I believe that we are naturally herbivores and there is extensive evidence to prove so
Mod Corpses indeed! Not that we are "immune" to utilize that discussion without crossing some line, even though it is simple fact. A lot of people find information technology distasteful to exist reminded of what they are eating, but then that only shows their reality isn't lined up with what they want to believe.

More often than not I go with the whole "ethics, wellness, and surround" line if the person asking is being prissy about it. I accept had a few people get kind of snarky or condescending with me about it, so I've said something a little snippy like "I don't consume things with a confront." I very much similar that George Bernard Shaw quote: "Animals are my friends... And I don't eat my friends." I think I'm going to use that in the future.
I say, its "for environmental and compassionate" reasons.I am always being offered dolphinburgers past my friends, because they know I'one thousand a marine environmental activist.
I refer to meat as "carrion" and dairy as "cowpus," but when talking to my husband simply.
But I do not e'er attempt to "convert" anyone. I detest the behaviour of those vegans who thrust their views on others with all the obnoxious religious zeal of the former Christian missionaries. Information technology does not help at all. I believe we should atomic number 82 by instance. I keep as fit and salubrious as I tin can for my 64 yrs and that makes a point past itself.
I swim and ride my bike for hours and climb mountains and just love being alive and healthy, without cruelty.
